Dehradun, August 27

Vipin Vallabh Bhatt of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) was elected president in the students’ union elections at Shri Guru Ram Rai (SGRR) PG College here today.

Vipin Vallabh Bhatt (NSUI) beat Shailendra Sati (ABVP) by 68 votes. Vipin got 709 out of 1,360 votes while Shailendra secured 641 votes. Suryakant Sati (Aryan Group), who secured 631 votes, was elected general secretary while Arnav Panuali, who secured 725 votes, was elected vice-president.

Sonali (704 votes) was elected joint secretary, while Vaishali Bhatt (868 votes) and Niharika (670 votes) were elected treasurer and university representative, respectively. This is another setback for the ABVP after its defeat in DBS College elections yesterday.

Meanwhile, ABVP supporters blamed the rift between the party leaders for the defeat. Around 50.7 per cent of votes were cast as only 1,360 of the total 2,679 students used their voting right.
