Chandigarh, March 27

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has finalised Mohali-based Mars company to take over the garbage processing plant at Dadu Majra from April 1.

The Jaypee group will the run the garbage processing plant at Dadu Majra till March 31.

MC Joint Commissioner Manoj Khatri said on March 31 they would start the process to handover the plant to the Mohali based company. The MC would not pay any salvage money to the Jaypee group.

Besides, the MC would also not pay any tipping fee to the new company, Khatri said.

There was a dispute between the MC and the Jaypee group over running the plant. The MC and the Jaypee group had even moved the National Green Tribunal (NGT).

As per the National Green Tribunal (NGT), New Delhi, the Jaypee Group will run the garbage processing plant at Dadu Majra till March 31.

Earlier, the Jaypee Group had shut the plant on July 11 last year, and later, the MC had moved the Shimla Bench of the NGT. The tribunal then directed the Jaypee Group to resume work at the plant by July 27, 2016.

The MC had also planned to convert the existing garbage plant into a new plant, which will convert electricity from garbage. MC officials had even visited a garbage plant in Uttar Pradesh, which converts electricity from garbage. But that proposal did not succeed.
