Ludhiana, January 9

A show-cause notice has been served on Congress MLA Rakesh Pandey for violating the model code of conduct by using a red beacon on his vehicle. Although the beacon was covered, it has to be removed under the code. Only government officials can use it on their vehicles.

Meanwhile, a show-cause notice has also been served on the joint candidate of the Lok Insaaf Party and the Aam Aadmi Party, Randhir Singh Sibia, for holding a rally at Upkar Nagar. Sibia did not take the permission for the rally from the administration, which is necessary under the model code of conduct.

The Returning Officer of the Ludhiana-North constituency, Lovejeet Kaur Kalsi, said notices had been served on both Sibia and Pandey for the violation of model code of conduct.

“Sibia did not take permission from the administration before taking out a rally at Upkar Nagar while Pandey was using a red beacon on his vehicle. Although it was covered, the beacon is not allowed to be used during the imposition of the model code of conduct. Both were given 24 hours time to reply to the notices,” said Kalsi.

Meanwhile, Pandey said the vehicle belonged to his security. The reply has been submitted, he added.

Both Pandey and Sibia have submitted their replies to the returning officer who has forwarded these to the District Election Officer. The DEO will further send the replies to the Chief Electoral Officer.
