A Punjabi film soaked in mystery. How would you take it? Wow, for once you can use this expression! Faraar, this week’s release, directed by Baljit Deo starring Gippy Grewal, Kainaat Arora, Jaggy Singh and Girija Shankar is an action-thriller and for a change it has both action and thrill in equal proportions!

Director Baljit Deo, known more for his cinematography than direction, has actually donned the director’s cap. Baljit Deo has done justice to the story, keeping the scenes as crisp as possible. The first half is exciting and thrilling; which is maintained towards the end. Their is a justification for every act, for every twist and every turn.Nothing is left unanswered. The film has been shot abroad in Los Angeles with locations never seen in a Punjabi film before! The USP is the thrill element it holds, and of course Shinda (Gippy Grewal), in an all-together new avatar.

After Jatt James Bond, it is Faraar that brings out the actor in Gippy Grewal. He has worked on his physique a lot for the film, which clearly shows. With a completely different look, Gippy scores brownie points. For Faraar, Gippy has not only stuck to his role, but also added substance to it. His dialogues are heavy and justifiable. The actor is not carried away by anything.

Then comes the villain Jaggy Singh, indeed he is pretty handsome and menacing. If only he would have asked him to hold back his laughter or let’s say, subdued laughter, he would come across even better. Girija Shankar as the lawyer has done justice to his role. Here comes the actress, Kainaat Arora, a pretty face, a stylish no- make-up look, a fashionable wardrobe and some dialogues. Not bad!

It is the second half of the film and it still holds your interest. Not even once does one feel like leaving it. Faraar gives a feel of a Hollywood film, something which is praise worthy.

The songs in the film have a macho and heroic feel to them, quite in sync with the story. If only the last bit of the film was trimmed and less flashbacks used! Faraar, anyhow, makes for a good watch!
