No extension for PGI Director

CHANDIGARH: Present PGI Director Prof Yogesh Chawla has not been given extension beyond his tenure that ends this October. However, he can continue to head the Department of Hepatology since he has not completed 65 years of age. This was decided by the governing body (GB) during its 121st meeting chaired by its president Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda here today.

Present PGI Director Prof Yogesh Chawla has not been given extension beyond his tenure that ends this October. However, he can continue to head the Department of Hepatology since he has not completed 65 years of age. This was decided by the governing body (GB) during its 121st meeting chaired by its president Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda here today.

A search selection committee has also been set up for the selection of the new PGI chief, the chairperson of the committee will be named by Nadda soon, informed a member of the GB. He added that while the names of other members of the committee had been finalised, they were not disclosed during today’s GB meeting.

Modifications in recruitment rules

The meeting also gave a nod to modifications in the recruitment rules of the PGI. “The governing body has called for uniformity in the recruitment rules of the PGI, AIIMS and JIPMER,” informed sources.
