Bajra could not be purchased at the local grain market on the first day of the procurement process today, as farmers failed to submit documents required for selling the produce. However, the arrival of 1,000 quintal bajra was reported in the market today.

The farmers said getting the girdawari report from the Revenue Department was not an easy task, as patwaris remained in the field most of the times. “I have been trying to contact the patwari for the past a few days to get the girdawari report for selling my bajra to the government agency, but to no avail,” said Krishan, a farmer.

Jai Singh, District Manager, HAFED, said farmers required the original ‘jamabandi’ of the agricultural land, girdawari document, Aadhaar card and bank passbook to sell their produce.

“We took a round of the entire mandi and met several farmers, but no one completed the paper formalities and procurement could be initiated. Farmers have been asked to produce all documents so that their produce could be purchased at the earliest,” he said, adding that four quintal produce of bajra per acre was to be purchased after assessing the quality.

Harender Silana, president of the Jhajjar Grain Market Arhtiyas’ Association, said more than 70 per cent farmers had already sold their produce to private buyers.

Meanwhile, Jhajjar SDM Pradeep Kaushik visited the grain market to take stock of the procurement arrangements.
