Nine gangsters held in Sangrur, pistols seized

SANGRUR: The police claimed to have busted two gangs and arrested nine criminals and seized nine .315 bore, .32 bore and .12 bore pistols, 20 cartridges, a motorcycle, and a sum of Rs 1.20 lakh from them.

The police claimed to have busted two gangs and arrested nine criminals and seized nine .315 bore, .32 bore and .12 bore pistols, 20 cartridges, a motorcycle, and a sum of Rs 1.20 lakh from them.

Patiala Range DIG Balkar Singh said that acting on a tip off, the Longowal police succeeded in nabbing four members of a gang - Gurvir Singh (gang leader), Maninderjit Singh, Gurmit Singh and Budh Singh. However, one of their accomplices Manpreet Singh was absconding.

The police have recovered three pistols of .315 bore, a pistol of .32 bore and eight cartridges from their possession.

The DIG also said that another gang of criminals had been busted by the Lehra police with the arrest of five members - Pritpal Singh (gang leader), Bahadur Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Soni Singh and Gurpreet Singh. He were nabbed while planning to loot petrol stations, banks and liquor vends in the area.

The DIG further said the police had recovered three pistols of .315 bore, a pistol of .32 bore, a pistol of .12 bore, 12 cartridges of different bores, currency notes worth Rs 1.20 lakh, and a motorcycle from their possession.

He said out of Rs 1.35 lakh which had been looted from one Rajinderpal in Lehra area on May 23 by the criminals, the police had recovered Rs 1.20 lakh.

The DIG said all the arrested persons were aged between 20 -27 years.

He said all the seized weapons were country-made that had been brought by the criminals from Uttar Pradesh.
