The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has served notices on Alwar district authorities and the Rajasthan Government in connection with effluents being released by its Bhiwadi industrial units in Dhaaruhera town and nearby villages located on the Haryana-Rajasthan border.
The NGT has fixed July 14 as the next date for hearing on the petition filed by a local resident, Inderpal Mukdam, who is Municipal Councillor Sumitra Devi’s husband.
“After the district authorities, we apprised Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar of the problem through Rewari MLA Randhir Kaprivaas when the former visited Rewari some time ago, but the problem lies unaddressed. Hence, we approached the NGT for a permanent solution,” Inderpal said.
He said liquid waste gets accumulated in the streets and main roads of residential areas leading to inconvenience for the local residents who have been facing this problem for a long time.
Notably, the effluents released from industrial units at Bhiwadi in Rajashtan, in the fields of Nandrampur Bans village and Sector 4 and 6 in Dhaaruhera town have become a cause for concern for locals.
The liquid waste has not only reduced the fertility of agricultural land, but also polluted the ground water to a large extent.
Rewari DC Yash Garg said, “We have asked the Alwar authorities several times not to let their industrial units discharge the liquid waste in Dhaaruhera and nearby villages, but they are not bothered. The problem has now turned serious.”
He maintained Rewari SDM Munish Nagpal and other administrative officials had met the Alwar officials over the issue some days ago. The Alwar officials at the meeting assured strict action against their industrial units, but effluents are still being discharged, the DC added.
