New CP reverses most decisions of Kunwar

Within a day of joining, Commissioner of Police (CP) RN Dhoke has reversed most decisions taken by his predecessor Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh. The major one is related to the revision of police station limits.

The former CP had proposed to reduce the number of 28 police stations to 22 and the proposal was also sent to the government. Even the SHOs of 22 police stations had also been appointed and the police zones divided among ADCPs and ACPs.

Dhoke, at yesterday’s meeting held late evening with senior police officials, instructed them to make 28 police stations operational and retain their old names.

The DCP, Dhruman Nimbale, confirmed that now 28 police stations would be functional. “The proposal for reducing the number to 22 police stations has not been scraped yet but till the time it is approved by the government, the CP wants to run 28 police stations on the old pattern. If the proposal is approved, then the new pattern could be adopted,” the DCP added.

On the former CP’s decision to receive all complaints at police Sanjh Kendras, the DCP said now, along with Sanjh Kendras, the police stations would also entertain complaints. Residents could visit any of the two places two lodge their complaints.

With regard to the initiative facilitating that ’police station jurisdiction will be no bar for lodging FIRs’, the DCP said this pattern would continue. “Now, any resident can lodge a complaint at any of the 28 police stations. After entertaining a complaint, the same will be transferred to the police station concerned where ultimately the FIR would be registered,” said Nimbale.

He said even the arms-verification decision would also continue and arms would be released only after making their verification. “Commissioner of Police Dhoke has asked the field staff to focus on crime prevention and crime detection. The CP has also asked the police to ensure accountable and corruption-free policing,” the DCP added. Sources said the initiative of former CP to run a single-window CRPC centre for grievance redressal might also not be followed by the incumbent.
