Former Union Minister and veteran BJP leader Chaman Lal Gupta today emphasised the need for adopting a comprehensive strategy to deal with the prevailing situation in the Kashmir valley.

In a statement issued here today, Gupta said the present situation in the Valley was yet another phase of the proxy war launched from across the border about three decades back. “This needed to be fought like a war. It requires great care as the renewed designs of the enemy are having both the internal and external dimensions,” he observed.

Gupta said the authorities should take all the aspects in view that how the masses of the Valley had been made hostages to the extent that they could not work at their will to earn their livelihood, not to say of casting their votes in any poll.

He regretted that many leaders of the mainstream parties were under pressure, both for the communal considerations and that of being out of power. They were playing a dubious role ignoring their past. These long-time former rulers were even glorifying the ultras and justifying the violence. He said this dubious role of mainstream politicians was making the functioning of the law and order machinery, especially security forces, more cumbersome.
