NDRI adopts five villages to promote dairy farming

KARNAL: The National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) has adopted five villages under the ‘Farm First’ project to promote the best crop and dairy farming practices among the farmers.

The National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) has adopted five villages under the ‘Farm First’ project to promote the best crop and dairy farming practices among the farmers. These include Garhi Gujran, Kamalpur Roran, Churni, Samora and Kheri Mansingh villages of the district.

Gopal Sankhla, project in-charge, said as many as 1000 farmers have been selected under the project.

Dr AK Srivastava, Director, NDRI, said multi-disciplinary team of scientists would work under micro-environment to solve the problems of dairy farmers. A door-to-door survey had been conducted to identify the farmers and their problems, he said.

He maintained the scientists would educate farmers about integrated pest and weed management, besides, developing a value chain for milk and milk products.

“We are going to develop an sms portal to issue advisory to the farmers and receive their feedback,” Srivastava said. He said information regarding dairy and crop related programmes being run by the state and the Union governments would be shared with farmers.

The Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) has sanctioned Rs 80 lakh for the project for two years.
