As part of its nationwide campaign, the Congress today labelled the one-year tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government as ‘achievement-less’ that failed to realise tall claims made in the run up to the 16th Lok Sabha elections.

AICC general secretary and former Minister of State for Human Resource Development Jitin Prasad, along with Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhya, today held a press conference in Haridwar in this regard. Jitin said the NDA government had failed miserably on the agriculture front as thousands of farmers were still reeling under crop loss and non-payment of compensation.

He took a dig on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s credit aid of 1 billion dollar to Mongolia during his recent three-day foreign visit saying he was more concerned about foreign countries than hapless Indian farmers.

“The BJP government is anti-farmer as it has failed to provide adequate compensation to farmers whose crops were destroyed due to inclement weather conditions. Farmers are not even provided the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their crops and they are reeling under a heavy debt. The BJP government is pressing for passing the Land Acquisition Bill (Amendment), which shows that it is pro-capitalist and anti-farmer,” said Jitin, son of former AICC vice-president Jitendra Prasad.

Referring to the Congress-led UPA government’s MNREGA scheme, Jitin said even budget to the tune of Rs 6,000 crore had been cut for this scheme, implying that rural people would now be getting work for only 30-35 days work as compared to minimum 100 days provided earlier.

“Prime Minister Modi, his ministers and BJP leaders all are busy in clicking selfie photos to get maximum media coverage,” remarked Jitin, who lost from the Dhaurahra constituency (UP) in the last general elections.
