Patiala, October 24

Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday said he had no reservations on Navjot Singh Sidhu and other leaders of Awaz-e-Punjab joining the Congress.

A press release said that in an informal chat with the media here, Amarinder said he had always maintained that Sidhu and all other leaders aligned to the Congress policies were welcome to join the party.

“I don’t know why I’m repeatedly being asked the question,” Amarinder said, adding that his stand on the issue had been clear from the beginning. “In fact, I was the one who told Sidhu, when he left the BJP, that he should join the Congress,” Amarinder said.

“Whether it’s Sidhu or the Bains brothers or Pargat Singh, the doors of my party are always open to them,” Amarinder said, adding that these were people who had their roots in the Congress and could not possibly remain away from the party for long.

Maintaining that his stand on the issue was always clear and categorical, with no scope for ambiguity, Captain said the interests of the party are supreme, and if the party benefited from the joining of like-minded people, they could only gain from any such development.
