BBN, a crime capital of Himachal?

With a sudden surge in the rate of heinous crimes in the state’s industrial belt of Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh (BBN), where a case of murder and rape have been reported in the last 24 hours, the area is earning the sobriquet of becoming the crime capital of the state.

In a latest case of murder, which took place last evening at a dhaba at Dhana village, Ramcharan, a resident of Goljmala village, was attacked with some sharp-edged weapons by a group of people.

According to the SP, Baddi, G Shiva, the murder took place due to some past rivalry and the accused had been identified.

Relatives of the deceased blocked traffic at Nalagarh Chowk today, putting on hold movement of all vehicles as they were pressing for an early arrest of the accused who despite being identified were still out of the reach of the police.

The police officials, including DSP Khajana Ram, had a tough time in trying to pacify the protesters, who were adamant on early arrest of the accused. The relatives of the deceased refused to cremate his body and it was also placed at the Nalagarh Chowk for nearly an hour.

The police finally arrested three accused Hansraj and his mother Kamala (45) and Shiv Kumar later in the day. All hail from Dhana village.

A case has been registered. DSP Khajana Ram said the two groups had had an altercation some days ago and there was a simmering rivalry brewing between them. The deceased was also involved in crimes like attempt to murder.

In another case a 15-year-old girl hailing from a village in the Nalagarh sub-division was raped last evening by a youth hailing from an adjoining village, while the victim was alone at home and her parents had gone to work in the fields. The accused intimidated the victim to keep silent but she narrated her plight to her mother after she returned home in the evening. The police had registered a case.
