Nabard gave state Rs 1,917 cr in 2016-17

National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) had provided an assistance of Rs 1,917.96 crore to Uttarakhand in the 2016-17 financial year, focusing on increasing rural infrastructure in the state.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, DN Magar, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Uttarakhand Regional Office, said in the just-concluded financial, NABARD provided assistance to the tune of Rs 1,917.96 crore to Uttarkhand, which, he said, was 2.7 per cent more than the assistance given to the state in last financial year of 2015-16. He said out of which Rs 900 crore was provided as loan to the state government for the creation of rural infrastructure under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund.

He also disclosed the proposals worth Rs 911 crore were sanctioned during the financial year for the construction of 744.43 km of roads, 16 secondary schools, four rural bridges and creation of irrigation facilities for 8,903 hectares of agricultural land in the state.

DN Magar disclosed that during 2016-17, 2,378 self-help groups were strengthened. He said NGOs and banks were also extended support for promoting and nurturing self-help groups in the state.

 Dr Magar said for enhancing the livelihood opportunities of tribals in the state, six tribal development projects were being implemented in the state through NABARD’s assistance. — TNS
