Tension gripped Sanghan village of this district in the morning today when a dispute arose over the burial of a member of the Muslim community in a graveyard situated in the village. The burial took place after the police intervened.

Jimmu Khan (80), a resident of the village, passed away this morning and his kin took the body to the graveyard at about 8 am. However, some villagers allegedly objected to the burial, claiming that the said land belonged to them and they had constructed their houses there.

ASI Chander Bhan, the in-charge of the village police post, who rushed to the spot on getting the information about the ruckus, reportedly threatened action against those obstructing the ritual. Following this, the burial took place in the presence of police.

Village sarpanch Surjit Singh said the graveyard land was demarcated some time ago and it came to the notice that some people had encroached upon over one acre of land. The encroachers were asked to vacate the land. The matter was still not settled. He said the land would be again demarcated and a boundary wall would be constructed so that there is no dispute in the future.

SP Sumer Partap Singh said the matter was resolved by the police and now, there was no issue.
