Musical ballad sung on Jitu’s life at Magh Mela

MUSSOORIE: A musical ballad depicting the story of legendary figure Jitu Bagadwal, a romantic warrior from Uttarkashi district who lived during the reign of king of Garhwal, was presented during the Magh Mela celebrations at Uttarkashi today.

A musical ballad depicting the story of legendary figure Jitu Bagadwal, a romantic warrior from Uttarkashi district who lived during the reign of king of Garhwal, was presented during the Magh Mela celebrations at Uttarkashi today.

The ballad was organised by the Samvedna Theater Group that involved in preserving and promoting the culture of the region. Govind Bisht, who played the role of Bagadwal, was able to strike emotional chord with audience during the play.

The play was directed by Dr Ajit Panwar while Ajay Nautiyal provided the musical score for the ballad. JP Rana, president of the Samvedna Group, said it was important to keep alive the folk tales through the form of theatre. He said we were trying to reach out to a large audience and preserve the culture and tradition of the state.

Earlier, the singer of Saregama television show fame mesmerised the audience with her melodious Bollywood and Garhwali numbers. Sonia Anand said she was daughter of the soil and loved performing in Uttarakhand and this was her second sting at the Magh Mela. Sonia said her idol had been eminent Uttarakhandi folk artiste Narendar Singh Negi and she was watching his performances and thought of following on his foots steps. She has lent her voice in Badri film along with eminent Bollywood singer Shan and is working to popularise the Garhwali culture across the country. Reena Ghalwan, the winner of Jhumeru 2017, a traditional musical show of Garhwal, also performed on the occasion.
