Motorcyclist dies in hit-and-run

In a hit-and-run case, a motorcyclist was killed while the pillion rider was seriously injured after their motorcycle was hit by a speeding car near the Sector 42/43 small chowk last night.

According to the police, the deceased, who was riding the motorcycle and was in his early twenties, has been identified as Suraj and the pillion rider as Ankit.

The police said both motorcycle riders, residents of Tin Colony, Sector 56, were returning home when the accident took place.

The car driver sped away from the spot. The police were informed and both injured rushed to the GMSH, Sector 16, where doctors declared Suraj brought dead. Ankit was referred to the PGI where he was admitted.

The deceased was a plumber and native of Uttar Pradesh.

The registration number of the car was noted down and the driver, identified as Amritpal Singh, who was later arrested.

A case against him has been registered at the Sector 36 police station.
