Ludhiana, January 16

As part of the efforts of the District Administration, a motorcycle rally was organised by the youth to motivate voters regarding the need and ethical use of their votes. The youths, especially the young boys and girls from Ludhiana and Chandigarh, took part in the rally.

The rally started with the flag shown by Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Ravi Bhagat. Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-Additional District Election Officer Apneet Riyiat was also present on the occasion.

Ravi Bhagat said over 150 youths took part in the rally. The participants included members of famous bikers’ club of Chandigarh, members of ‘Initiators of Change’ group and young boys and girls.

Starting from Guru Nanak Stadium, the rally covered Bharat Nagar Chowk, Bhai Bhala Chowk, Aarti Chowk, PAU, Sidhwan Canal, MBD Mall, Lodhi Club and Pakhowal Road. It culminated at the Guru Nanak Stadium. During the rally, the participants carried placards on their vehicles with the message of voter awareness. They were also raising slogans for the need and right use of votes.

Bhagat said Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities were being undertaken in Ludhiana district in order to achieve 100 per cent voting in the Assembly elections. He said cycle rallies, marathon and walkathon would also be part of the SVEEP activities.

He appealed to the voters not to use their votes under the impression of any unfair means or any type of intoxicants. If any of the candidate or the political agent tries to bribe them or forces them, they must inform the District Administration about the same.

He said the number of first-time voters was 39,486, which was more than other districts. It would be the priority of the district administration to motivate these first-time voters.

Bhagat said the voters could contribute for the development of the country by casting their votes..
