Chandigarh, December 3

With a view to providing water to the southern regions of the state, the Haryana Government has decided to remodel and increase the capacity of Bhalaut and Jhajjar sub-branches of the Western Yamuna Canal.

An official spokesman said the proposed project was a part of the vision of Chief Minister Manohar Lall Khattar for ensuring water security to the National Capital Region, and particularly to Delhi.

He said the project to increase the capacity of Bhalaut and Jhajjar sub branches would ensure utilisation of water of river Yamuna during monsoon by carrying it to southern Haryana for irrigation and recharging of ground water. For this purpose, it has been proposed to increase the capacity of Bhalaut sub-branch from 2,052 cusecs to 2,596 cusecs at head, which would be carried further through Jhajjar sub-branch, he added.
