Mohali, February 8

Residents of six villages falling under the Mohali Municipal Corporation limits staged a protest outside the MC office in Sector 68 today.  They were protesting the imposition of property tax at Mataur, Kumbhra, Sohana, Madanpura, Mohali and Sohana villages.

They also raised anti-government slogans. Congress MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu and the vice-president of the Aam Aadmi Party youth wing, Randeep Baidwan, also joined the protesters.

Addressing the gathering, Baidwan said after the acquisition of their land, villagers had no work to do. “They are already facing difficulties in running their dairy business and now they have been burdened with property tax,” said Baidwan.

The protestors demanded that villagers should be exempted from such taxes also.
