The local police today claimed to have busted two inter-state gangs of vehicle lifters. They have arrested six persons and recovered two tractors and 13 motorcycles from them.

Those arrested have been identified as Vipin Kumar of Nanheri village in Fatehabad district (Haryana), Narinder Singh, alias Nindu, of Brahman Majra village in Solan district (Himachal Pradesh) and Shubham of Nangal village, Solan, all members of a gang, and Ravi Kumar of Lalru, Gulshan of Gharera village, Yamunanagar (Haryana), and Pradip Kumar of Chachhrauli village, Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh) of the other gang.

Mohali SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said Vipin, Nindu and Shubham were mainly active in Kurali, Kharar and nearby areas in Himachal Pradesh. “We have recovered six motorcycles from their possession, which they had stolen from Balongi, Kharar and Kurali areas,” said the SSP. “The three members of the gang are about 20 years of age and Class XII pass-out. They are unemployed and addicted to drugs,” he said.

From the other gang, the police recovered two tractors and seven motorcycles.

“First, we had nabbed Ravi (22) while riding a stolen Mahindra tractor at a naka, laid by the CIA wing and the local police, at Lalru. During interrogation, he revealed that he, along with his accomplices, had stolen it from Jharmari village. He made some revelations that helped us nab his accomplices and recover another tractor and motorcycles, which they had stolen from different places in Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh,” the SSP said. He added that Ravi was working as a driver at a factory in Yamunanagar while his accomplices Gulshan (20) was a tea seller and Pradip Kumar (35) a carpenter working in a factory.

SSP Bhullar said they hoped to work out more cases of vehicle thefts with their arrest.

Separate cases have been registered against the accused at the Kurali and Lalru police stations.
