Mohali, May 24

None of the students from the entire Mohali district could make it to the Punjab School Education Board Class X provisional merit list having a total of 335 students.

A total of 9,031 students appeared in the examination from the district and only 5,578 students could clear it.

Statistics show that “all is not well” in Mohali as far as the education scenario is concerned.

The so-called ‘educational hub’ of Punjab, which has a number of schools with urbanised teachers, has been showing dismal performance in academics over the past several years.

Two students from the district found place on the merit list last year and in 2014.

This year, Mohali and Pathankot districts were at the bottom in the district-wise list of number of students making it to the merit list. Ludhiana topped the list with 121 students, followed by Bathinda (29), Hoshiarpur (29) and Patiala (28).

In the list of district-wise total pass percentage, the situation is no different for Mohali. The district has been placed 22nd (second last) with the total pass percentage of 61.77. Only Barnala district is behind Mohali with 57.79 pass percentage.

Tarn Taran (93.24), Gurdaspur (92.05) and Amritsar (89.41) grabbed the top three spots.

However, the only saving grace this time for the district is some improvement in the total pass percentage. Last year, Mohali had saw the total pass percentage of 55.35, which has increased to 61.77 this year. In 2014, the total pass percentage of Mohali district was 61.56.

It is to be noted that the district’s performance was no different in the Class XII results, which were declared recently.
