Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi has described the Modi-led government at the Centre as “Jumlo Keey Sarkar” asserting that the promises made by the Modi government have just become advertisements for newspapers.

Singhvi was addressing mediapersons at the Congress headquarters in Dehradun today on the occasion of completion of three years of the Modi government. He said while the promises made by the Modi government had become just advertisements for newspapers, the announcements being made were nothing more than propaganda.

He said the Modi government had failed on all the fronts. “Unemployment is on the rise, the agriculture growth rate has come down and smart cities are nowhere in picture,” Singhvi said. He reminded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to create 2 crore jobs every year but in the past three years of its rule only 1 lakh jobs had been created by the BJP. “Rather a large number of people have lost their jobs in the IT sector,” he added, pointing out that more people got jobs during the earlier UPA regime at the Centre.

The Congress leader said while 60 per cent of the people were dependent on agriculture in the country, there had been a big slowdown in this sector ever since the BJP government came to power at the Centre. “Today under the BJP regime, the growth rate in agriculture is just 1.6 per cent whereas it was 4.2 per cent during UPA rule,” he pointed out. He said a large number of farmers were committing suicide every year due to faulty policies of the Modi government.

He said even in the housing sector the Modi government had promised housing for all. But, only 1 lakh houses had so far been constructed while it had promised 2 crore houses by 2020, which today seemed impossible to fulfil.

Singhvi said even the situation in Kashmir had worsened under the reign of the present BJP government.
