MLA inaugurates handball tourney

Bilaspur MLA-cum-president of the State Handball Association Bumber Thakur inaugurated the Invitation Cup Handball Tournament at the sports stadium in Dulehar village of Haroli block here today.

Bumber said Una district had been a nursery for handball players in the state and had produced many national and international-level players.

He said a general house meeting of the association would be called soon to sort out a few pending issues.

Efforts would be made to boost sports in all the districts of the state, he added.

Teams from the Indian Air Force, Indian Army (Red), Indian Army (Green) Sports Authority of India, Delhi, Haryana, Indian Railways, Roorkee, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Police and Border Security Force are participating in the tournament.

He said the state government was improving sports infrastructure and providing funds to set up a gymnasium in every panchayat of the state.

Omkar Sharma, former vice-chairman of the Agro Packaging Corporation-cum-chief patron of the District Handball Association, said the tournament was the 12th in the series of the annual feature organised in Dulehar village.

Association district president Amandeep Moni, secretary Munish Rana, vice-president Satish Bittoo and other state office-bearers of the association were also present.
