Missing man found dead in car

The body of a 40-year-old man, who had gone missing yesterday, was found under mysterious circumstances in his car at a parking in Sector 17 here this morning. The police have ruled out any foul play in the incident.

The victim has been been identified as Munish Chopra, a resident of Sector 15, Chandigarh, who was working as salesman at a showroom in Sector 17.

Inspector Uday Pal, SHO, Sector 17, said the victim had visited the showroom on Sunday in an inebriated condition after which he was asked to leave.

Sources said Chopra had an argument with his wife yesterday following which the PCR staff were called. The police found Chopra in an inebriated condition and took him to the Sector 11 police station. The sources said Chopra was later allowed to leave as no complaint was made against him.

The victim, however, did not return home at night following which the victim’s mother visited the showroom today. She, along with another salesman, started looking for the victim’s car in the parking. The body was found lying between the front and the rear seat of a white Accent car was found by a salesman of the showroom in the parking opposite the general post office.

The body did not bear any injury marks. Blood was oozing out of his nose. The deceased’s face had turned blue. The victim’s mobile phone was found in the car. All doors except a rear door were found locked and the windows closed.

The body was shifted to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16.

The police said the victim’s wife had on June 11 also lodged a missing complaint at the Sector 11 police station following which a DDR was lodged. Later, he had returned home.

The victim is survived by his wife and two children.

The postmortem was done at the GMSH. The body will be handed over to the kin tomorrow. The police have initiated inquest proceedings in the matter under Section 174 of the CrPC at the Sector 17 police station. Preliminary investigation has pointed towards excessive drinking as the cause of the death.
