Mussoorie, January 16

The fresh spell of rain and snow lashed the Garhwal region, bringing down the mercury considerably leaving tourists and residents shuddering in cold in their homes today.

The snow was witnessed at the high-altitude region of Uttarkashi, Yamunotri, Mori, Kedarnath and Badrinath.

The tourist town of Mussoorie also witnessed mild snow which was followed by intermittent rain the whole day. The snowfall continued for almost an hour.

Shivam Singh, a local resident, said another spell of snow was possible at night as the temperature had gone down below freezing at Mussoorie. The daily wage labourers were in difficulty as most of the construction sites remained shut due to the cold weather in the town.

The snow was also reported from the Radi Top, Harsil, Dharali and Mori in Uttarkashi. The electricity consumption soared to a new high as the consumers used room heaters to beat the intense cold.

Heavy snow was also witnessed at the winter abode of the Ganga in the temple of Mukhba, forcing the pilgrims to stay put at Uttarkashi. They had come to pray at the Ganga temple but could not return due to the reports of one feet snowfall. The Met Department has warned that the weather will remain inclement for 24 hours more.
