Pregnancy week from Dec 15

The Health Department will organise a high-risk pregnancy week from December 15 to reduce the maternal mortality rate (MMR) and the infant mortality rate (IMR) in the district. The department will identify high-risk pregnant women and make them aware about safe pregnancy, said Dr Vandana Bhatia, Civil Surgeon.

The MMR and the IMR in the district was 92 per lakh deliveries and 41 per thousand live births, respectively The target was to the MMR tom 75 and the IMR to 25 by March, 2015, Dr Vandana Bhatia said.

Field workers, including ASHA, anganwadi workers and ANMs, would visit door to door to guide pregnant women about their health and safe delivery, Dr Bhatia said.

Health check-up camp for pregnant women would be organised at each PHC and CHC, said the Civil Surgeon. High-risk pregnant women would be referred to Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College Hospital or two local private hospitals that have offered their services for such women. All facilities would be extended to such women patients free of cost, the Civil Surgeon asserted.
