Meerpur varsity sets dress code for first convocation

Indira Gandhi University (IGU), Meerpur, has set a dress code for its first convocation to be held on December 3.

Male students will participate in the function wearing white kurta-pyjama while girl students have been asked to wear off-white saree or salwar kameez for the occasion.

The university has also set a dress code for the faculty. Male teachers would wear black turtleneck blazer with black pants while the female staff would be seen in off-white saari. The guests would be presented Ahirwal pagri.

Prof SP Bansal, vice chancellor of the university, said, “We have decided to replace the traditional gowns with Indian attire to preserve and promote Indian culture and traditional values. Around 450 students will be awarded graduation degrees while 25 students will receive gold medal for securing top position in their respective course.”

Bansal said honoris causa degree would also be conferred upon eminent personalities in the fields of art, culture and social work.

Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki would the chief guest on the occasion while Education Minister Rambilas Sharma and PWD Minister Rao Narbir Singh would preside over the convocation function.
