A tense atmosphere prevailed at the ‘Jat Nyay Dharna’ site in Jassia village of the district today, a day after an organiser was booked for sedition due to his offensive (beheading) remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The protesters at the dharna organised by the All-India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) slammed the Prime Minister, Chief Minister Manohar Lal and also targeted the media for reporting the controversial remarks.

Sombir, a resident of Jassia village, was booked under Sections 124 A (sedition) and 153 A (promoting enmity between groups) of the IPC for his offensive remarks made in presence of AIJASS leader Yashpal Malik.

Blaming the media for the case and “projecting Jats in bad light”, the protesters called the journalists names from the dais and stated that they did not require media help.

This triggered angry outbursts from the crowd, with several members threatening the reporters present on the occasion. Sensing the gravity of the situation, the newsmen covering the dharna left the venue.

Organisers and AIJASS leaders later apologised for the episode. They said the dignity of the dais would be maintained in the future.
