KANGRA, OCTOBER 21

Residents of Kholi village today blocked the state highway following the death of a driver with the municipal council here.

The police said Kartar, 51, resident of Kholi village, serving as a driver in the local municipal council, was found dead in a hotel room last evening. They said the body of Kartar was found on the bed wearing only an under garment. The body wore no marks of injuries.

The police informed his family members who reached the spot and suspected that Kartar was allegedly murdered. Meanwhile, a large number of villagers and the relatives of the deceased too arrived on the scene and started a protest.

They blocked the Shimla-Matour highway on the Dharamsala road. They were demanding a probe.

Tension gripped in the area when vehicles in a large number got stranded on both sides of the highway. Some people started throwing stones on the hotel breaking some glass panes. As tension grew up, heavy police deployment was made and two additional district police chiefs reached the spot from Dharamsala.

Around 11pm, a team of forensic experts arrived and inspected the spot. The police sealed the room from which the body was recovered and also sealed the office room of the hotel. Following assurance by the police, the protesters lifted the blockade.

After the postmortem, the body was handed over to his relatives.
