A day after Chandigarh Tribune highlighted the problems faced by commuters in the parking lots at Sector 17, the Municipal Corporation (MC) today swung into action and issued challans to four parking contractors in Sector 17.

The enforcement wing of the MC visited four paid parking lots in Sector 17— the CMC parking lot, MOH parking lot, Sahib Singh parking lot and the Jagat & Anand parking lot — and issued challans for haphazard parking, failure to deploy staff at every 50 metres inside the parking lot to assist commuters, lack of e-ticketing machines and non-functional CCTV cameras.

The team spent nearly two hours at the paid parking lots in Sector 17 and found these violations.

A senior MC official said they would continue to hold such inspections.

Yesterday, Chandigarh Tribune had reported that a majority of the parking lots do not have a designated parking space marked with white paint for each vehicle. The parking lots do not have a lane for fire engines to move in case of any mishap. Parking attendants allow haphazard parking inside the lots.
