Mastermind drove through Panipat unnoticed

Parminder alias Penda, mastermind of the Nabha jailbreak, faced no hassles crossing Panipat city with weapons in his car yesterday even as the police had put up nakas at number of places.

Sources said Penda passed a toll plaza near the flyover in the city last evening from Gharaunda side.

They said Penda dropped accused, including Harminder Singh alias Mintoo, chief of the Khalistan Liberation Force, and others, near Gharaunda, after which he entered the city and through Sanjay Chowk  turned towards the Panipat-Haridwar highway.

He entered Uttar Pradesh from the Sanoli border and was arrested in Kairana by the UP Police, 10 km away from the Sanoli border, said the sources.

Superintendent of Police Rajesh Duggal said CCTV footage had been collected, in which he was seen crossing the toll plaza. 

The CCTV footage had been handed over to the Shamli police, he added. — TNS
