To connect a remote village of the tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti with a road, local MLA Ravi Thakur today laid the foundation stone of a road project, to be constructed at a cost of Rs 50 lakh, at Jasrath village here.

The residents had been demanding road connectivity to the village as they were facing great difficulty in transporting their agriculture produce to local markets.

Earlier, villagers had twice boycotted the Lok Sabha elections and once the panchayat poll in the district to pressurise the state government to consider their demand.

The MLA said the 1.5-km-long stretch would connect the village with a road soon and the construction work would be done on a war footing. Apart from Jasrath village, the other villages of Jahlama panchayat like Haling, Taljon, Fuda and Junda would be benefited with the completion of this road project.

He also laid the foundation stone of a veterinary hospital at Thirot, which would be constructed at a cost of Rs 37 lakh. After the completion of this hospital, area residents would be able to avail better medical facility for their cattle at the doorstep, he said.

Thakur said the state government was making efforts to provide better health and educational facilities and road connectivity to the people of the district and several development projects were underway in this regard.
