Mandi, February 21

Instrumental ensemble Devdhwani of the Shivratri fair 2016 has entered into the Limca Book of Records.

Under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kadam, the district administration had organised the largest folk instrumental ensemble, Devdhwani, with 1,806 local musicians at the Paddal ground on March 10, 2016. The event was a part of the Shivratri fair in Mandi.

The district administration received the confirmation letter from the Limca Book of records. It was first of its kind event in India, where such a large number of instrumentalists took part in the event to display Devdhwani at a single time.

Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kadam said “This year, we will try to break our own record and will target to assemble more than 2,000 instrumentalists to display Devdhwani during the Shivratri fair”. Locals appreciated efforts of the district administration to get recognition in Limca Book of Records to promote traditional culture of district.

During the week-long Shivratri fair, more than 200 deities congregate in the town since past, which were accompanied by Bajantri groups and each deity has their own Bajantri groups. This gave the opportunity to the district administration to organise such event to mark it in Limca Book of Records.
