Jalandhar, February 24

Amaninder Singh (40) and his paramour, Tejinder Kaur (29) alias Ruby, were arrested today for the Lajpat Nagar triple murder. The police said Amaninder and Ruby had hired contract killers to murder his wife, Paramjit Kaur.

Police Commissioner Arpit Shukla said Ruby used to work in Amaninder’s factory a few years ago. She had left the job after his family came to know about their affair. Amaninder bought a house for Ruby near Rama Mandi and pressed Paramjit for divorce. When she did not relent, he approached one of his old employees, Vipin.

Vipin, a resident of Rama Mandi, and his friend Amrit demanded Rs 8 lakh to kill Paramjit. Last month, Amaninder gave an advance of Rs 1.07 lakh to Vipin. The duo procured a local-made pistol from Uttar Pradesh.

Shukla said the assailants first visited the house on February 21. “They told Amaninder’s mother Daljit Kaur that he had sent them to replace CCTV cameras with high-resolution cameras. So, they disconnected all cameras and the digital video recorder installed in the house,” the Police Commissioner said.

Vipin and Amrit planned to kill Paramjit on February 22, but they didn’t do it when they saw her elder son standing outside the house. “Amaninder had told both assailants that they should only kill his wife and not harm his three children and his mother,” added Shukla.

Yesterday, Amaninder left home with his two sons and a daughter on the pretext of test-driving a new car. He presumed that his mother would be out for an evening walk. However, Daljit, Paramjit and the latter’s friend, Khushwinder Kaur, happened to be in the house when Vipin and Amrit struck.

During the autopsy, a bullet and a 16-cm screwdriver were found lodged in Khushwinder’s throat. Three bullets each were removed from the bodies of Daljit and Paramjit. Vipin and Amrit are on the run.

Wife had refused to divorce him

Ruby used to work in Amaninder’s factory. She had left the job after Amaninder’s family came to know about the affair. He pressed his wife Paramjit for divorce. When she did not relent, he hatched a conspiracy with an old employee to murder her.
