Man gets 7-yr jail for raping minor girl

The Principal and Sessions Judge, Rajouri, on Tuesday awarded seven years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on a man for raping a minor.

The convict was a teacher by profession at the time of the crime, committed in 2010.

The convict, Nasir Iqbal, 28, a resident of Broh village in Rajouri, was booked under Sections 376 (rape) and 342 (illegal confinement) at the Kalakot police station on the complaint of the victim.

The victim was nine years old in 2010 when she was raped. She had gone to buy some items from a shop owned by the convict when he took her into a room and raped her.

The victim had brought the matter to the notice of her parents and accordingly a complaint was lodged against Nasir Iqbal, who was later arrested by the police.

Announcing the verdict on Tuesday, Inderjit Singh, Principal and District Sessions Judge, Rajouri, sentenced Iqbal to seven years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 under Section 376 of the RPC and three months of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 800 under Section 342 of the RPC.
