A 32-year-old man allegedly killed his wife by hitting her on the head with a large hammer following a dispute over some issue at their residence in Zirakpur today. Later, he surrendered before the police.

The accused, Tony, a labourer, has been booked under Section 302 of the IPC. The deceased has been identified as Radha (28), a resident of Adarsh Nagar, Zirakpur. The victim was married to Tony for more than eight years and the couple had five children, said sources.

The incident took place at 2 pm when Tony and his wife Radha had a heated argument over some issue. The accused, in a fit of rage, hit his wife with a hammer.

The accused surrender before the police after the incident and was subsequently arrested. Differences had cropped up between the two over time.

Today, the couple reportedly had a fight over some petty issue following which Tony hit his wife with a hammer on the head.

The Zirakpur police have registered a case on a complaint of the victim’s father, Gurdiyal Singh. The police have seized the hammer used in the crime. The body has been kept in a mortuary of the nearby Civil Hospital.
