BATHINDA: A renowned Punjabi singer of Malwa region, Dharampreet (in pic), today allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with the ceiling fan at his house in Patel Nagar.

A renowned Punjabi singer of Malwa region, Dharampreet (in pic), today allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with the ceiling fan at his house in Patel Nagar.

Investigation officer Harmanjit Singh said the singer returned home last night after performing in Amritsar. His mother Balbir Kaur and a nephew were at home. His body was found hanging with the fan in the morning, he said. Harmanjit Singh said as per the deceased's mother, the victim had no dispute with anyone.

Dharampreet started his career in 1993 as Bhupinder Dharma with his album "Khatra Hai Sohanya Nu". He became popular with his album "Dil Naal Kheddi Rahi" which was released in 1997. — TNS
