Officer-bearers of Majra khap, a breakaway faction of Kandela khap, yesterday claimed support of sarpanches and block samiti members of 14 villages.

Addressing a press conference here, president of the Majra Khap Mahinder Singh Rithaal claimed sarpanches of 10 villages had extended their support to the khap in writing, while the rest of the four sarpanches had favoured the newly formed khap.

Rithaal said the Forest Department had given 5,000 saplings for the tree plantation drive that would begin from Roopgarh village of the district. He also asked state government to repair machines at the sugar mill in Jind and set up government medical college at Haibatpur village. He said panchayat had already offered 22 acres for the college.

He slammed Tekram Kandela and said the latter should stop misleading the people of Majra Khap.

Meanwhile, Tekram Kandela refuted Rithaal’s claims and said some persons were are trying to malign the image of the Kandela Khap.
