Lt-Gen KJ Singh accepts PU Maharaja Ranjit Singh Chair

CHANDIGARH: Former (GoC-In-C) Western Command Chandimandir Lt-Gen KJ Singh, PVSM, AVSM (BAR) (retd), accepted the invitation of the Panjab University to join the Chair of Maharaja Ranjit Singh at the defence and national security studies department.

Former (GoC-In-C) Western Command Chandimandir Lt-Gen KJ Singh, PVSM, AVSM (BAR) (retd), accepted the invitation of the Panjab University to join the Chair of Maharaja Ranjit Singh at the defence and national security studies department. He expressed his happiness and gratitude for being associated with the PU as Maharaja Ranjit Singh Chair professor.

After the approval from the Syndicate to invite former (GoC-In-C) Western Command Chandimandir, Lt Gen KJ Singh, PVSM, AVSM (BAR) (retd.) for the Chair of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the invitation was sent to him.

Records of the PU revealed that the chair was lying vacant since it was constituted. In fact, the chair was transferred to the department of history a few years ago by the authorities but nobody was appointed for the same. A special committee that was constituted under the chairmanship of former VC and senior Senator RP Bambah recommended that the chair should be transferred back to the defence and national security department and a retired senior military officer should be appointed on it.

On August 24, Gulzar (original name Sampooran Singh Kalra) will interact with faculty and students of the PU and re-release a set of books entitled ‘Gulzar translates Tagore’. The two books are ‘Baghbaan’ and ‘Nindia Chor’. On August 29, Prof YK Alagh, Chancellor, Central University of Gujarat will deliver the first Prof JC Anand Memorial Oration on behalf of the department of political science.
