Lightning kills 20 sheep, injures 40

As many as 20 sheep were reportedly killed and 40 injured after lightning struck Chauntra area of the region here. However, the caretaker of sheep had a narrow escape.

Meanwhile, heavy rain, accompanied by high-velocity winds, caused extensive damage to the standing fruit and other crops in the region. Tea, plum, mango and other citrus crops were the worst-affected.

Hail continued for about half an hour in the higher reaches of Palampur. Many trees were uprooted and power supply was also hit.

The upper reaches of Dhauladhar and Chhota Bara Bhanghal experienced mild snowfall.

The Meteorological Department has forecast rain and hail for the next two days in the state.
