Lay sewerage, water pipes at a distance: Nanda

Additional Chief Secretary, IPH and Urban Development Department Manisha Nanda today directed the department to maintain a distance while laying the sewerage and drinking water pipelines and complete all the sewerage schemes in time.

Chairing a meeting of officials, Nanda said the department should submit the action plan regarding the sewerage scheme for 2017-18 to the Urban Development Department. She also asked to submit utilisation certificates of all schemes to the department by March 17, 2017.

Nanda said the work on 19 sewerage schemes in 54 towns had been completed and four more schemes were nearing completion while the work on 23 schemes in other towns was under progress. Moreover, the department was preparing the DPRs of eight more schemes.

She also directed that roads should be levelled immediately after digging so that people did not face any difficulty. IPH Secretary Anuradha Thakur said a nodal officer would be appointed for ensuring the better coordination and proper implementation of the schemes.

Director, Urban Development, Devender Gupta said Rs 310.65 crore had been released to the IPH Department for sewerage schemes since 2008-09 to 2016-17.

It was also decided that the construction of sewerage treatment plants would be undertaken as per the latest technique so that there was the minimum possibility of pollution and the parameters of the Central Pollution Control Board could also be achieved.
