Parliamentary panel reviews Jan Aushadhi Scheme in J&K

In a significant development to boost the Jan Aushadhi Scheme (JAS), general secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Roma Wani was recently invited by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Chemicals and Fertilisers for exchange of ideas to make the scheme successful in the state.

The state branch of the Indian Red Cross Society is the implementation partner of the scheme in J&K. While interacting with the members of the Parliamentary committee, Wani provided details of the progress achieved in respect of Jan Aushadhi in the state.

She provided details of the problems being faced by state branch in the implementation of the scheme, which included non-availability of full range of medicines enlisted in the scheme.

There are eight Jan Aushadhi drug stores in the state and two stores are ready for inauguration at Government Medical College Hospital and SMGS Hospital, Jammu. Besides, space for establishing stores at Kathua, Samba and Ramban districts has been identified and they are being made operational. The committee was also apprised of the loss of Jan Aushadhi medicines worth Rs. 3.20 lakh approximately in the recent floods.
