Doda, January 17

Jammu and Kashmir’s mountainous district Kishtwar has bagged the top rank for the implementation of the Solar Home Light System.

Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar, Ghulam Nabi Balwan, confirmed the reports and said, “Kishtwar bagged the first position in implementing Solar Home Light System and promoting solar energy under the mission of the Government of India to promote new and renewable energy.”

“Kishtwar is a remote district where 40 to 50 per cent of population is living without electricity in Marwah, Dachhan, Warwan, Padder and Bonjwah areas. A majority of these areas remains cut off from the rest of the state due to heavy snowfall and lack of road connectivity,” the DC said. The DC will be honoured with an award on January 24 at Gulmohar Hall, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi, to be presented by the Union Minister for Coal and Renewable Energy. — OC
