Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has announced weekly off for the police personnel in the state. Khattar was here today to inaugurate the new Police Commissionerate and the state Cyber Cell building.

“The police personnel work 24 hours and the nature and stress of their duty coupled with staff crunch and additional duties take toll not only on their efficiency but also on their health and social life. We realise that they are also human beings and the government decides to give weekly off to the police personnel,” said Khattar amidst applause from the cops present there.

While welcoming the announcement, DGP KP Singh highlighted the issue of staff crunch and disproportionate work load was ailing the force.

“We are highly outnumbered with respect to workload and duties. A research has highlighted that the cops average lives are 5 years less than others but still it’s the khaaki passion which drives us to our best possible limits. A little break can do wonders to efficiency,” said the DGP.

Khattar further declared that the state government would not only recruit 7,200 new police personnel, but also rope in 3,000 ex-servicemen on ad hoc basis to deal with law and order in state. He also said that the police department had been given 500 motorcycles and 50 Scorpio cars for different districts and 3,060 houses would be constructed for the policemen in the next three years.

Khattar said that the state government would open women police stations at the block level as those at the district level had proved to be huge success.
