AAP spokesperson Sukhpal Khaira today termed the removal of Sucha Singh Chhotepur from the post of convener as unfortunate.

He said time had now come for the AAP high command to allow more involvement of the Punjabi leadership in the party matters of the state.

His statement comes after a controversy in the state regarding a sting featuring Chhotepur in which he is allegedly accepting a bribe.

Addressing the media here, Khaira said, “Chhotepur seems to have been made a victim. There has been talk in the party that some people could be targeting leaders.

“But if a person from within the party is involved in such activities, it is unfortunate and condemnable. Chhotepur has been working for the party ever since it began rising in the state. He has struggled for it,” he said.

Khaira said he and leaders HS Phoolka and Kanwar Sandhu tried their best to convince Chhotepur before he went to the press on the issue. “But he felt victimised and humiliated and told us he couldn’t face his relatives after the charges.”
