Dhuri, October 24

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal here on Monday visited the residence of journalist Kewal Krishan, who was allegedly shot dead by an Akali councillor.

Expressing condolence with the family, Kejriwal said “law and order in Punjab has stooped to a new low, which was evident from the spree of murders committed by liquor mafia and the murder of Kewal Krishan.”

He said even journalists were not safe in Punjab.

When the family apprised Kejriwal about the marriage of the deceased journalist’s daughter, Kejriwal said “Punjab Government should provide adequate compensation to the family to enable them to solemnise the marriage of the victim’s daughter. He urged the state government to ensure justice to the family.”

Kejriwal said criminals had no fear of police. “Akalis have let their goons loose to shoot anybody,” he added.

Once voted to power, it would be a challenge for the AAP government to mend the deteriorated law and order and restore people’s faith in police, which was at present working under Akali jathedars, he said.

Later, Kejriwal visited Satauj, the native village of party MP Bhagwant Mann. He visited the homes of three youth who died due to electrocution while working in their fields.

From Satauj, Kejriwal moved to Talwandi Sabo to pay obeisance at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib.

From there, he would move to Bathinda to address a gathering of traders and businessmen. After that he would proceed to Jalandhar. Tomorrow, he is to visit Batala and some other places.

Kejriwal is accompanied by his wife Sunita, who recently took voluntary retirement from the Indian Revenue Service.

She is making sure that he takes medicine on time. Kejriwal, who underwent a throat surgery recently regarding a persisting cough, has been running mild fever since he got operated, it is learnt.
