Karnataka prof recites ‘Japji Saheb’ at Har-ki-Pauri

Pundit Rao Dharenavar, who has translated ‘Japji Saheb’ into Kannada language, today recited the ‘bani’ at Har-ki-Pauri in Haridwar to mark the Gurupurb of Guru Nanak Dev, the composer of ‘Japji Saheb’.

Pundit Rao has been visiting Haridwar every year to recite ‘Japji Saheb’ for the past few years.

Today, he recited the ‘bani’ and also taught it to young children at the Ganga ghat.

“I have a dream to connect the people from Haridwar to Amritsar Saheb and also South Indians with North Indians through religious exchange. For this purpose, I have already translated several works of Karanataka’s saints into Punjabi and have also translated ‘Japji Saheb’, ‘Sukhmani Saheb’ and ‘Zafaranama’ into Kannada language,” Rao said.

Dharenavar is originally from Karanataka and at present is working as assistant professor in Government College, Sector 46, Chandigarh.

He is quite versed in Punjabi language and has penned as many as 12 books in Punjabi. He teaches sociology in the Chandigarh college.

He also runs free classes for slum children.
