Karnal, March 15

Giving rest to speculation, Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Medical Education, Dhanpat Singh today made it clear that only the hospital and OPD buildings of Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital (KCGMCH) would be inaugurated on March 18 and not the medical college.

Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda, along with Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Health Minister Anil Vij and ministers and MLAs from the district, would attend the inaugural ceremony.

The ACS inspected the project and arrangements for the inauguration. According to sources, it had been decided earlier to inaugurate the college building on March 15, but showing no haste, the government decided to inaugurate only the hospital and OPD buildings.

The OPD section, being run in the old building for the last around five years, was shifted to the new building on Monday. The ACS reviewed working of the OPD section.

He was not able to give any satisfactory reply about the imposition of fine on the construction company for the delay. The project was scheduled to be completed in December last year. He admitted that construction of the college building was still going on.

“Only the building of the hospital and OPD will be inaugurated on March 18. The college building will be completed by June 30. The last date to apply for admission to the college will be September 30 and classes will commence on October 1,” he stated.

Asked about the poor quality of furniture in the building, he said they would ensure the quality in the college. He was accompanied by Dr Surinder Kashyap, Director, KCGMCH; Aditya Dahiya, MC Commissioner; Yogesh Kumar, SDM; and Sudhanshu Gautam, CTM.
